Missouri Resource Assessment Partnership (MoRAP)The Missouri Resource Assessment Partnership (MoRAP) is an interagency partnership at the University of Missouri that provides expertise and leadership in geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing, and natural resource management. MoRAP envisions a Missouri where environmental quality is maintained and human needs are met to ensure the highest quality of life for our citizens. MoRAP's role is to help develop and deliver high quality information at the lowest possible cost so partner agencies can efficiently accomplish natural resource management. Citizens of Missouri have always had a special sense of place. Now as Missouri and our nation grows, our natural resources are in greater demand. Our challenge is to balance the need for development with the need to conserve important aspects of the environment such as clean water, clean air, fertile soils and our native plants and animals. To make informed decisions we need accurate, reliable scientific information. Your MoRAP partner agencies recognize that development of information systems will not be sufficient. We also need to ensure that information is made available in clearly understandable formats. Advances in Geographic Information Systems and remote sensing offer the promise of better natural resource management on all scales, from small sites to regions. Communication systems will allow the linking of different databases to enhance information analysis. These technologies are expensive, so the MoRAP partners have pooled their resources in order to save money. We will develop information on natural resources, manage data, make assessments as needed and deliver information to facilitate natural resource management. The MoRAP partners want to ensure our state's legacy. After all, we did not inherit this Missouri from our parents so much as we are borrowing it from our children.
